XTDX: Mobile dumps
XTDX are mobile dumps, used in the experimental halls to isolate a downstream
area from an upstream one. Typically access to the upstream area is controlled
by magnets (and sometimes TAX dumps as well). The access to the downstream area
may under certain conditions be controlled by a single motorised dump like the
one shown below.
The zone behind the XTDX can only be liberated for access if the beam intensity
impinging on the XTDX is below a given limit, specified by Radioprotection
service. This limit is never above 106
particles per SPS cycle.
